On April 13, 1967 a working class family received to the world a beautiful daughter in Santurce, Puerto Rico. They named her Olga Ta��n. Who would have thought that this cute little girl would become what she is today? At the small age of four, little and cute Olga had predestined her future: she decided she was going to be a huge star! Twenty four years later, with seven platinum albums, her public extends from Buenos Aires to her native homeland Puerto Rico, passing through Spain and the United States. All of this, plus an incredible list of awards and recognitions, has proved that Olga was not kidding when said she wanted to be a star.
At age four Olga announced her prophecy, it was in the 90's that it was finally fulfilled, because, without a doubt, this is the Ta��n decade. After great success with the merengue group Las Nenas de Ringo y Jossie in the mid eighties, Olga becomes part of the merengue trio Chantelle. With them, she demonstrates her contagious energy, her vocal talent, and the chemistry between her and her public. This has never abandoned us. In 1992, Olga surprises the tropical music industry with an exclusive contract with WEA Latina as a solo artist. Her first album, Sola, came out this year, demonstrating her stardom and receiving her first platinum album. The next year, the public has a second romance with Olga, when she showed us that she is, in fact, "La Mujer de Fuego", or the fire woman, with her second album, Mujer de Fuego. Songs like Vendr�s Llorando and Presenci� Tu Amor became a great success, and this album brought two platinum albums.
This year, the public baptized her as "La Reina del Merengue" or the Queen of Merengue. In 1994, Olga continues to climb her ladder to success with her third album Siente El Amor, which received three platinum albums, and Olga establishes herself as an international artist. Her songs are heard with the same popularity in Mexico, New York, Guatemala, Madrid, and many more. She even reached on of the top three positions in Billboard Magazine. She ended this wonderful year with an album that contains her best singles called Exitos y M�s. With great hits like Me Cambio Por Ella and Es Mentiroso, the platinum album reaches the United States in less than a week. That same year the Latin television network Univisi�n recognized her with three Premios Lo Nuestro for Best Song of the Year, Best Tropical Artist of the Year, and Best Tropical Album of the Year for Siente El Amor. "The titles, the recognitions, I accept them because it is the public's love, and because I live for them." Olga Ta��n Even the politicians recognized the amazing work of Olga.
The Senate of Puerto Rico declared November 9 as "El D�a de Olga Ta��n", or the day of Olga Ta��n. Senate declared, "And when nothing is left, there will be the artistic sensibility, class, and amazing vocal resources that Olga possesses, and makes her the musical sensation of Puerto Rico. Olga had the wonderful privilege of being the godmother of the famous Puertorican Parade that is held every year in New York. As everyone cheered, Olga sat in a float that passed through Manhattan Avenue, looking like the queen that she is.
Two of the most emotional moments in Olga's life occurred when she had the privilege to sing along with Juan Luis Guerra and Celia Cruz, two tropical music legends. "La Noche de Reinas (This was the name of the night when she sang with Celia Cruz) gave me the responsibility to show the talent of the new generation of women in merengue and confirm to the legend Celia Cruz that the road that she walked has been of great importance to all of us that have selected this beautiful, but sacrificing career, music.", declared Olga.
In one of her shows, famous Mexican singer and composer Marco Antonio Sol�s was amazed to see what a great artist Olga is. He had faith in Olga to participate with him in a ballad album which he would compose and produce, and Olga would sing. Olga accepted and in 1996, her quadruple platinum album Nuevos Senderos went on sale.
Finally, the fans heard that on October 11, 1997, Olga was going to held an amazing concert on the Estadio Hiram Bithorn in San Juan, Puerto Rico, were all the big artists like Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, etc. have given their concerts. This was going to be a concert that would make history, with new things, special effects, and a lot of fun stuff. All Sold! The concert was all sold, and on the October 11, starting at almost 9:00 A.M., fans began to make the line. But, mother nature imposed her presence, and the concert had been postponed to the next day. Olga was really scared, because everything was ready to go, and there had been people who came from far away to see it. "Would these people truly love me?", asked Olga. The answer: yes. The next day, the stadium was completely full with an audience of 35,000 people, and Olga Ta��n: Ardiente made history as one of the best concerts of this century. Three weeks later, she presented Ardiente in Centro de Bellas Artes, where she sold three concerts, and filled that place completely. What more is there in the life of Olga Ta��n? Only God knows.
Surely we all hope that he continues to bless her in the was he has done through all of her life. There is one thing we all know: Olga has already demonstrated that she is the queen of merengue, and one of the best artists of this decade. Her legend will be kept alive by all of us who love her, and we all hope she continues to climb that ladder of success forever, because her success will never end.
